A New Chapter for Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Prishtina

A significant milestone for Kosovo’s research and innovation landscape has been reached with the formal establishment of the Institute for Innovation, Water and Environment (IIWE) at the University of Prishtina.

Initiated through the IWRM-K Program and developed in close cooperation with the Rectorate, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and key academic and institutional partners, IIWE is designed to strengthen research, innovation, and collaboration in the fields of water resources and environmental management.

The Institute will serve as a platform for:

•  Scientific research and innovation in water and environmental fields
•  Interdisciplinary cooperation between academia, public institutions, and professionals
•  Knowledge transfer and practical solutions to sector challenges
•  Student involvement through applied research and professional experience

The establishment of IIWE reflects IWRM-K's commitment to embedding its Living Lab approach within Kosovo’s academic ecosystem. Alongside IIWE, the Program has also supported the establishment of two additional research institutes at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine:

• Institute for Agriculture, Food, Environment and Agrobusiness (IAFEA)
• Institute for Livestock and Veterinary Science (IVS)

Together, these institutes are creating stronger foundations for interdisciplinary research and advancing the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of water, environment, agriculture, animal health, and human well-being.
